WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Your organization can connect with a soldier if you are a religious school, youth group, teen program, synagogue, Hillel, JCC, Day School, Moishe House or any other program that engages participants from youth to young professional.

WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT?

Participating organizations must commit to accompanying their soldier for the school year. This means making monthly videos (1-2 minutes in length) and fulfilling wishes for two packages per year. It is highly recommended that organizations continue with the same soldier throughout the duration of their service. In order to maintain continual participation, new soldiers can be matched each school year.

WILL WE MEET OUR SOLDIER?

  • Meet-ups will be coordinated for Lone soldiers with their connecting organizations should they make trips to Israel.

  • Soldiers on their “meuchedet” trip home will have the opportunity to meet with adopting organizations

  • College groups will have the opportunity for their soldier to join them on their Birthright trip as a part of the "mifgash" program.

IS THERE A COST?

Cost to participate is just $250 per semester, or $500 for the duration of the school year. This covers international packing and shipping expenses and delivery in Israel, customs, VAT, program coordination, program launch by our staff (where available), the cost of the care packages, and 24/6 support from our staff throughout the year.

This subsidized rate is available for the 2018-2019 school year.

WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT?

M’ever LaYam is very different from other lone soldier organizations. We are based in the United States with a focus on engaging the communities of the lone soldiers. Each lone soldier is matched to their very own group of students. Short videos are the method of communication, keeping in line with the interests of the age groups engaged. Videos are sent monthly in a shared folder to the teacher which they can show their video in whatever way is best for their organization.

Packages are filled with items that the soldier requests- which makes them both different and uniquely special. We cut through the red tape, handle cargo shipping, clear customs, settle Israeli VAT tax and personally deliver each package to each soldier in Israel. M’ever LaYam was developed with lone soldiers as partners in providing support to North American Jewry and to increase Diaspora Jews’ emotional attachment to Israel. This way, the lone soldier also becomes an active participant in building ties to their own community.
